giving back

As part of a commitment to creating a better world, a portion of proceeds is donated to local nonprofit groups.

The support of clients, promoters, and friends allows us to make small contributions to volunteer firefighters, food pantries, animal shelters, environmental groups and more.

Originally, the donations were calculated as 10% of gross receipts, but as overhead expenses grew, adjustments had to be made.

Donations are now done thus:

Some items are auctioned on eBay, with the donation percentage and specific nonprofit stated.  These contributions are paid automatically, about 30 days after purchase.  The donation percentage per auction item varies, and typically a new nonprofit is featured each 30 to 60 days.

At the end of the year, gross receipts from soulbearing.com, soulbearing on zazzle.com, and the artist's eBay auctions are calculated and direct expenses are deducted (such as materials, website maintenance, transaction fees, shipping costs, and feeding the artist).

The remaining total is then multiplied by 10%.  Then the donations made via eBay auctions are totaled and deducted from that 10%.  If the end result is a positive balance, that amount is donated to a nonprofit group.  (If the final total is a negative amount, it means we already gave more than 10% of net proceeds to local nonprofit groups!!)

June’s Recipient: Chesapeake Humane Society
When determining how advanced a society is, we often think of things like technology and architecture.  Perhaps we should also measure cultures’ advancement by how we treat the least fortunate and most helpless among us. Having encountered and even adopted several stray and abandoned pets over the years, I think it is reasonable to say that these […]
